Arabia is an essential part of everyday life and celebrations for Finns – and has been for over 150 years.
The history of the Arabia Museum begins in 1948, when Finland’s first ceramics museum opened its doors to the company’s staff; the museum opened to the public in 1984. From May 2025, the story of Finnish ceramics will continue in the renovated Arabia Museum, on the street level of the Arabia135 block.
Arabia’s beloved tableware, decorative objects and art ceramics have been selected for the museum. Alongside these, examples of other production and objects that have been created through collaborative projects have been brought in. The museum also contains examples of Arabia’s enamel and glass production from past decades.
The raw materials, tools and various manufacturing and decoration methods developed over the decades are comprehensively reviewed in the museum, as they tell the story of Arabia’s extensive ceramic know-how.
The museum displays art works by artists who worked in the Arabia Art Department in the past. The valuable legacy of the Art Department is currently continued by the Arabia Art Department Association, which organizes changing small scale exhibitions at the museum.
